School Nurse

The Everett Health Department is seeking candidates for full time School Nurse positions. Candidates must be a Registered Nurse currently licensed with the Massachusetts Board of Registration, a Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing is preferred. Candidates must possess a current certification in CPR and First Aid from a recognized provider. We seek a motivated nurse with good judgment, decision making and communication skills. Candidates must understand the health needs of children and be able to work in a busy office with minimal medical supervision. Comfort with basic computer applications and email programs and the willingness to learn internal medical records software are required.

Nurse needed to start in September 2010 for regular Saturday/Sunday shifts and per diem for St. Mark's School Health Services, which maintains 24/7 nursing coverage. Shift times can be flexible and negotiated. St. Mark's School is an independent coed boarding high school with 330 students. Our school is in session on an academic year calendar, and is easily accessed from Rte 9,85, 495 and the Mass Pike. Interested candidates must enjoy adolescents, be able to work independently and have excellent clinical judgment.

Southborough

Fay School Day Nurse

Description:
The Day Nurse provides nursing services, first aid, illness assessment, and health maintenance to students Monday through Friday, 6:30am-3:00pm. The Day Nurse reports to the Director of Health and Counseling Services and collaborates with the consulting physician and other nurses to provide comprehensive nursing coverage to Fay School students in grades PK-9, day and boarding. This is a full-time, 12 month, salaried position with excellent benefits and begins immediately.

Qualifications:
Candidates must have a BSN, with a minimum of five years’ supervised nursing experience, maintain a current Massachusetts RN license, and maintain certifications in CPR and First Aid. We seek a motivated, resourceful, and flexible nurse with excellent judgment and interpersonal skills who understands the health needs of children and who can work in a shared, cooperative environment with minimal medical supervision. Candidates must be team players and possess strong oral and written communication skills, including the ability to work with residential students learning English and parents who may have minimal English skills. The ability to work efficiently, quickly, and accurately is vital. Comfort with Microsoft Office applications and email programs and the willingness to learn internal medical records software are required.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
•   Providing nursing services for sick or injured students during school hours (6:30am-3:00pm) with the ability to occasionally stay beyond scheduled hours if required
•   Providing first aid, illness assessment, and health maintenance to students
•   Administering daily prescription and PRN medication according to the Massachusetts Department of Public Health Medication Administration guidelines
•   Communicating with parents/faculty/advisors about student illnesses and care plans
•   Developing health care plans with interventions and goals in accordance with school nursing practice with the consulting physician and/or Director of Health and Counseling Services
•   Maintaining accurate documentation of individual student visits to the Health Office
•   Consulting with administrators, teachers, other staff nurses, Athletic Trainer, School Physician, Advisors, Duty Administrators, and/or Dorm Parents to provide a safe and healthy school environment
•   Providing for the physical safety of the school community by monitoring immunizations, screening for infectious illness, and reporting diseases as required by law
•   Acting as a resource in health education to school personnel, students and families; providing health education support in Student Life/Residential Life/Wellness Department
•   Identifying students who exhibit health or emotional needs and providing health education and crisis intervention as needed, including referral to Fay School Counseling Services for emotional health issues
•   Summer hours as assigned
•   Other duties as assigned
